umbrelladetective.com launched in late November 2009 to help contractors and recruitment agencies find the perfect umbrella company for their needs. The site is also home to one of the fastest growing job boards in the UK which is finding increasing popularity amongst recruiters and candidates alike. Since our ‘go live’ date we have expanded very rapidly and now attract thousands of unique individuals on a daily basis that are either in temporary or contract work, and seeking the services of a reputable umbrella company or that are looking for their next position – contract or permanent.

We provide unique services to job seekers, umbrella workers and recruitment agencies, such as our comparison tools which allows umbrella companies to be compared at the click of a button, so that job seekers can evaluate umbrella’s and make an informed choice. This takes away the need for agencies to ‘refer’ their workers to any particular company and gives the contractor full responsibility of the enquiry process.

For those recruitment agencies that have created their own Preferred Suppliers List (PSL), we give you the facility to add your PSL to the site which once ‘locked in’ will restrict the umbrella companies that any of your workers can register with. This gives you complete control over which umbrella company your contract workers are using. The PSL feature also works great in reverse, for example you can simply highlight whichever companies you will not allow your workers to operate through and they will be excluded.

The most recent phase of our development was to introduce the umbrelladetective.com job search,
which updates regularly throughout the day and has thousands of vacancies across many
industry sectors. For the job seeker we have our 3 click quick apply feature which makes
applying for positions incredibly fast and simple.

Our researchers have put a lot of time and effort into displaying the features and
key benefits of every umbrella company and recruitment agency on the site, we do
not just list their details and prices. We have ‘mystery shopped’ all the
umbrella providers giving them a review and a score which then places
them into ou them into our umbrella league table. All reviews and scores
on the site are based upon the experiences of our researchers at the time,
and we will be continuing this method of evaluation at random times.

What is next for umbrelladetective.com?

We are currently developing many areas of the site in order to provide our members and visitors with the best possible experiences. Our calculators section is being finalised and we will be releasing 14 calculators very soon including, a PAYE umbrella calculator, a loan calculator and a savings calculator. We will be releasing the umbrelladetective.com shop in April 2010 which will provide our members with discounted products, including the latest electrical equipment and safety wear. That’s all we can give away for now but we can assure you that we have a 5 year release plan which includes some extremely challenging, innovative and totally unique concepts which will make us one of the most visited sites in the country.
